alif hasn't started talking yet except for few words, his fave now is NAK! so nothing to fare with this milestone yet.
getting alif to read
inspired by yaya's approach to her little hani (and how amazed i am at the end result), i bought dr seuss's ABC hard board book (knowing him with his saliva kan? btw his problem is getting better nowadays, seldom meleleh unless he's concentrating on what he's doing). i have been reading tips/experiences of many other bloggers to introduce books to the little ones and i assume alif is ready for the new adventure. true enough, although he didn't repeat after me or rather pretend like he's reading after me, he looks and points to the colorful pictures and flipping the pages as if he enjoys it. heh! and now when i tell him where's your book? or paraphrasing the BIG A, little a, what begins with A? (in my fun tone of course!) he'll look up for his book under his pile of toys, and will pass the book to me, like he wants me to read to him. YAY! but i know, it's still a long way to go. i am sensing alif is a little bit slow when it comes to activites like this but i hope i have the perseverance to keep it going.
for my reference in future, am putting tips that i got from other bloggers, on how to start/introduce books to the kiddos
- make reading a FUN activity (read: funny voices, take turns and praise praise praise)
- read together
- freedom to choose their own books ie for infants, books with sounds
- don't force them to read ie FORCE = NO FUN
- surround them with books ( at home, bring to book shops, library etc)
- ENJOY the bonding
