alif just got his 18 m-o jab last saturday. i believe a good breakfast at b@wang merah cafe nearby filled up the first waiting hour easily. we were the 5th patient, but the queue was amazingly fast that day. when we came, our turn was due that the nurse in charge had to pass it up to patient after us.
alif was in his usual hyper self ;actively running to and fro and happily screaming while waiting for our turn. there was a small playground at the end of the corner you see, so 80% of the time, he was there. maybe because i keep on calling his name, a kakak, slightly older than him pon sibuk panggil alif jugak. when i asked alif to salam (shake hands) with kakak, alif obediently pull out his right hand while kakak hugged and kissed him on the cheek! wahh, sure kakak geram nengok pipi montel alif :)
dr sofi@h was quite pleased with his progress, he's 10.34 kg & 79cm! alahai... dah half height of me!! i hold and hugged alif when dr inserted the needle. luckily he just cried a few seconds, very brave boy! and after that, he turned to his jovial self again. that very evening, while killing our time at IKE@ alif had a mild fever. his blur mommy was wondering why la alif manja terover asyik nak berdukung je! :P but he behaved well and not so cranky. alif is a big boy now :)
educational toys?
alif is one easy-to-please baby. apart from this toy that we bought few months back, he pratically loves to play with actual stuff like remote control (car, astro decoder or tv alike), keys and handphones. but when he's in the kitchen, he loves to request for pah's tray where she put shallot, onion, garlic and potatoes. and he will start sorting them out from one tray to another, or simply put in another container that pah will diligently put beside him. once he's done, he'll assist me or pah putting things back again into the tray. hahaha, unlike mommy who is hopeless at cooking, i think alif ade 'can' nak jadi chef ! tu tak campur senduk & lesung batu yang dia suka nak main :) save money on buying toys!!
my colleague whose kids are doing well in maths told me to buy alif lego. he said buy according to age until he's 5 and i'll be amaze at how creative my son could be. the problem is i already bought chicco version of lego but alif never want to play with it. he just loves throwing the cubes away but not trying to build things that he likes.
educational toys are plenty in the market but does it worth it? some of them costs a bomb, i tell you. i remember my childhood toys that mak bought from pasar malam. i mean, they serve the same purpose cuma maybe it won't last long bcos the material was not designed that way. you know things like patung mata kelip vs barbie, get my point? i plan to buy good educational toys for alif so please share your experience or suggestions. sharing is caring :)

hi alif's mommy, your son is so beautiful. would like to share somethings about toys.. there is a difference between toys that works for you and toys that work with. toys that works for u includes those battery operated musical-making machines that does nothing to stimulate the mind. but for alif's age, i would recommend some wooden puzzles that fits into its shapes, or simply cubes of various sizes. its normal if they throw things around at first, that is just their stage of discovery/getting to know processs, but u have to instigate and play too, so that he will be interested. i am very fussy about getting toys for my daughter, but alhamdulillah, those investments that i made so far benefited her. it dont have to be expensive to be good, as long as it serves some purpose. for example, puzzles help them recognize shapes, increase sensorial and tactile skills, which later can help him develop strength and percision he starts writing for e.g. you can also make those toys yourself, because, they really grow out of them very fast. i did one for salma when she was much younger, out of a shoebox, with a hole to fit a ping pong ball and an exit for the ball. that gave her hours of concentration just operating the ball and seeing how it works going in and out of the hole. for children, simplicity and reality amuse them a lot, and makes sense to them. it is very important to develop this concentration skills early :) i hope this helps..im no expert, but im definitely very interested in these things, being a young mother myself! all the best !
dear maknenek,
very helpful information indeed, tq for sharing :) yeah i believe with some creativity those self-made toys will help the kids. will definitely try the shoe box tricks! btw i just bought this one book -> toddler play last 2 days. it has 100 activities that i can play with him, with guidelines of what is being worked on ie gross motor skills etc etc. hope alif will cooperate with me.
